THE TERMITE INSPECTION
A termite inspection is based solely upon the observations, experience, knowledge, and opinions of the termite inspector. The inspector will view all visible and accessible areas looking for evidence of termites in areas that are conducive to termite infestation. This normally includes the basement, sub-structure, slab, garage, and the outside of the structure. Some of the signs of termites are shelter tubes, damaged wood or evidence of a termite reproductive flight.
If there is no evidence of termites, Parkway Exterminating Co., Inc. will issue a one-year service agreement, simply stating that if termites appear within a year of the inspection, Parkway Exterminating will perform remedial termite control measure within the affected area at no charge to the property owner.
If evidence of termites is found, Parkway’s inspector will recommend the most logical, proven, cost effective pest control measure to control the termite infestation.
TERMITE CONTROL MEASURES
There are basically two options available for the control of termites, aside from structural changes or modifications.
TRADITIONAL (CONVENTIONAL) METHOD
The first is the traditional method or the use of a termiticide. This is when a termiticide is introduced into the soil surrounding the structure by sub-soil and sub-slab injection. In essence what the termite technician is attempting to do is place a protective chemical barrier around the structure to prevent termites from entering or exiting the structure. This is extremely invasive to the structure as it involves drilling and soil movement. However, it is extremely effective.
TERMITE BAITING SYSTEMS
The second method is the termite baiting system. In this procedure, the termite technician surrounds the structure with termite bait stations. This bait stations are strategically placed around the structure to act as monitors. These bait stations are inspected and checked periodically to determine the areas the termite are active. Once a bait station is “hit” an active bait is placed in the station to “feed” the termites. Eventually, the active bait is introduced into the colony by the feeding termites, which results in the demise of the colony. This method takes time.
Both termite control measures come with a one year service agreement and can be renewed at the option of either party. All Parkway termite services are performed in accordance to federal, state, DEC, EPA, and manufacturer’s label rules and regulations.
You and your Parkway inspector will determine which control measure is most beneficial to your structure.
